WHAT IS HENNA?
Henna is a 5000-year-old method of decorating the skin with temporary designs using a paste made from powdered leaves of the henna plant. We add essential oils, lemon juice, and sugar to the powder to enhance the color and staining power of the leaf.
A design is then created on the skin using a brush, cone, or squeeze bottle to apply the paste. This is left on for several hours until the natural plant dyes have stained the skin. When the paste is removed, a beautiful design is revealed. People in India, Africa, the Middle East, Hawaii, and other places where this plant grows have traditionally used it to decorate themselves for celebrations, ceremonies, and rituals.

A WORD ABOUT "BLACK HENNA"...
Drax uses only the finest natural henna, never black. All NATURAL HENNA goes onto your skin as a greenish to chocolate-brown paste that stains your skin a beautiful bronze color. NATURAL HENNA IS VERY SAFE! It does not ever leave a stain that is black, blue, or any other color. If anyone tells you they have henna that stains black, they are lying to you. In fact, "black henna" contains PPD a toxic, ammonia-based product that is not meant to be applied to the body and can cause the skin to blister and scar. Infections are very common. Please don't let anyone put it on you!
If you've had "black henna" before and did not have a bad reaction, you were very lucky. BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU'RE IMMUNE! Each time PPD is applied to your skin, the greater your risk of a severe reaction. Once you react to it, you are sensitized to it (and similar chemicals) for life. You will probably be left with permanent allergies to some cosmetics, perfumes, dyes, and even some prescription medications. As if that weren't enough, it can leave you with a lifetime of medical problems, including an elevated risk of bladder cancer!
